Hōkūle'a sailing along East Coast

Hōkūle'a, the double-hulled Hawaiian voyaging waka currently voyaging around the world, is departing Auckland tomorrow (Friday 9 January) en route to Picton and Wellington via the East Coast.  This waka hourua of the Polynesian Voyaging Society is a powerful symbol of the renaissance in traditional Polynesian sailing and way finding.

Upper Log Yard construction begins tomorrow (7 Jan)

Construction work to expand Eastland Port’s Upper Log Yard by 1.2 hectares will commence tomorrow, 7 January 2015.  The $11 million contract has been awarded to Downer and activity is already underway to prepare the port for the expected eight months of construction ahead.
